So, dear ladies, if you find yourself dreaming about someone doing something to you, you are merely dreaming about how YOU feel about that person. Your dreams are a reflection of your own desires, thoughts, feelings and fears. Now, some of you may be asking: why do we dream at all then? What is the purpose?
It has been suggested by Sigmund Freud that the we dream in order to maintain normal sleep patterns, cope with psychological stress, preserve both psychological and physical health, and help integrate newly learned things, etc. It is also thought that REM sleep is dream sleep, but the evidence for this is lacking. So, all in all, science has not been able to give us an answer as to why we dream and if it is some sort of necessary function.
But I believe many would argue on the necessity of dreams.
Dreams allow us to explore parts of ourselves and our personalities that we wouldn't normally on a daily basis. They allow us to see personal thoughts and actions from different angles, as well as give us a look into our most self-centered ones. It allows us to cope with sad and horrible events, as well as to relive and create happy ones. Dreams, in short, are much more than a scattering of images within our sleeping minds.
This is why I suggest starting a dream journal as there are numerous benefits from doing so.
A dream journal allows you to interpret dreams, is a gateway to lucid dreaming, receive dream messages that would be lost if not written down, and recall entertaining and amazing dreams.
And keeping a dream journal is simple! All you need is a notebook of any kind. This notebook will be kept by your bed, along with a pen, to write down whatever you recall from your dreams when you wake. Just remember to: keep the same format for each dream (always date your dreams!), write in present tense, and write down every possible detail you can remember. And, if you cannot describe a specific detail in words, sketch a quick drawing.
Interpreting your dreams can be the tricky part. You may feel the need to use a dream journal to find the meaning of each symbol, but you needn't always resort to this method. Before you decide on what the symbol in a certain dream means, let yourself journal for a few weeks. Look at what consistency in symbols you may have as the connections between your own dreams are more important than what a dream dictionary may tell you- as you may not find yourself comfortable with the "meaning" you are given. Give your dreams a little bit of a personal touch with your own analysis. If you think that the arrival of a prince in your dreams means you will partake in a great feast, or that is reflects how you feel about a boy you like, then that is the meaning you should attribute to the image.
You can also aid in the remembering of your dreams for journaling simply by getting enough beauty rest.
