The modern American society seems to be filled with ideas like "reach for the stars" and "achieve your dream at any cost" but... Somehow, I feel that ideas such of those are still lacking the same flair as saying something along the lines of "don't worry, be happy".Everyone seems so caught up in the details of achieving their ultimate goal that they forget that... The journey to that goal is important too.
Some may want to put forth "the ends justifies the means" but I may have to debate this when it comes to living ones life. You can say that if you had a difficult time in school that the resulting degree was worth the trouble. Or that the hassles that some go through when planning complicated group event are worth it when you see the smiles on everyone's faces and you can finally relax. OR, to further my point, that it is worth it when you have to work your way up through you workplace to achieve the eventual goal of being management. All of these examples have at least this one thing in common: they are stepping stones to your eventual happiness. There is a guarantee that you will see results for you hard work and that it will indeed be worth your efforts.
To contrast such worth-while situations, there are, of course, those which prove only to dampen the spirit and depress the mind. These are things such as dead-end jobs which have little or no room for actual advancement, jobs which offer no positive feedback or possible rewards, situations where you are being mentally abused (job, home, etc) and even less harmful situations where you are no challenged- which, for some, can be just as horrible as having a boss scolding you on a daily basis. These situations... are unhealthy for both our bodies and our minds. We can find ourselves justifying difficult situations if there is some hope of a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, but... Where there is no path and it seems as if we are unhappy while jogging in one point in time over and over again... There can be no true happiness or justification.
My advice to all of you, my dear readers, is not to let yourself fall into these sort of situations. The problems which slip into your life beyond the actual situations are not worth it. Always try to do things which will eventually result in your eventual happiness. Achieve your dreams, your goals- even if they are small ones on the path to one larger one. Look forward to tomorrow, live through today with a smile, and remember yesterday fondly~
